College / Bay sewer and streetcar-infrastructure construction: TTC detours, starting March 2



The City of Toronto is replacing sewer infrastructure

  • on College Street between Bay and Yonge streets and
  • on Carlton Street between Church and Yonge streets.

The City and the TTC are also renewing streetcar tracks on the same streets and upgrading streetcar overhead wiring in the area.

Both agencies expect to pause construction from mid-April to end of July during the FIFA World Cup 2026™, but expect to complete the projects in December.

Starting Monday, March 2, the City is closing to all traffic:

  • the intersection of College Street with Bay Street

during phase 1 of the projects.

The TTC is detouring buses and streetcars along these routes, while the intersection is closed:

  • 19 Bay;
  • 306 Carlton overnight; and
  • 506 Carlton.

19 Bay

Starting Monday, March 2, southbound buses operate along their regular path to Bay Street and Wellesley Street West, then detour:

westward along Wellesley West;
southward along Queen’s Park Crescent West, Queen’s Park and University Avenue; and then
eastward along Gerrard Street West to Bay,
resuming their regular path southward along Bay.

Southbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Bay Street beyond Wellesley Street West and at Grosvenor and College streets and Gerrard Street West.

Instead, southbound buses likely drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Wellesley Street West at Queen’s Park Crescent East and
  • on Queen’s Park at College Street.

Northbound buses operate along their regular path to Bay Street and Gerrard Street West, then detour:

eastward along Gerrard West;
northward along Yonge Street; and then
eastward along Wellesley Street West to Bay,
resuming their regular path northward along Bay.

Northbound buses skip their regular stops

  • on Bay Street beyond Gerrard Street East and at College and Grosvenor streets and Wellesley Street West.

Instead, northbound buses likely drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Yonge Street beyond Carlton Street and at Alexander Street and
  • on Wellesley Street West at Bay Street.

306 Carlton overnight

Starting Monday, March 2, eastbound streetcars operate along their regular path to College and McCaul streets, then detour:

southward along McCaul;
eastward along Dundas streets west and east; and then
northward along Parliament Street to Gerrard Street East,
resuming their regular path eastward along Gerrard East.

Eastbound cars skip their regular stops

  • on College Street at University Avenue and Elizabeth, Bay and Yonge streets,
  • on Carlton Street at Church, Jarvis, Sherbourne, Ontario and Parliament streets and
  • on Parliament Street at Gerrard Street East.

Instead, eastbound cars likely drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Dundas Street West at University Avenue and Chestnut, Bay and Yonge streets,
  • on Dundas Street East at Church, Jarvis, Sherbourne, Ontario and Parliament streets and
  • on Parliament Street at Oak Street and Gerrard Street East.

Shuttle buses replace the cars between McCaul and Parliament streets. Eastbound streetcar passengers may board eastbound buses on the south side of College Street west of McCaul Street.

Starting Monday, March 2, buses replace streetcars along the 306 Carlton overnight and 506 Carlton routes between McCaul and Parliament streets.

Eastbound buses start their trips in Spadina Station bus terminal, then proceed:

southward along Spadina Road, Avenue, Crescent and Avenue;
eastward along College Street;
southward along University Avenue;
eastward along Gerrard Street West;
northward along Yonge Street;
eastward along Carlton Street;
southward along Parliament Street;
eastward along Gerrard East;
northward along St. Matthews Road;
eastward along Jack Layton Way; and then
southward along Broadview Avenue to Gerrard,
ending their trips.

  • in Spadina Station bus terminal,
  • on Spadina Avenue at Sussex Avenue and Harbord and Willcocks streets,
  • on College Street at Beverley and McCaul streets and University Avenue,
  • on Gerrard Street West at Bay Street,
  • on Carlton Street beyond Yonge Street and at Church, Jarvis, Sherbourne, Ontario and Parliament streets,
  • on Gerrard Street East beyond Parliament Street and at Sackville, Sumach and River streets and
  • on Broadview Avenue at Gerrard Street East.
